The greatest gift I have ever received is not my wedding ring. Of course, it’s beautiful and one of my most cherished possessions. John found the perfect ring for me! Still, it stands dim in comparison to the gift from God. The ring is a physical object, and that’s all. It represents something, but the ring does not have power within itself. No matter how many times it sparkles and shines, it eventually gets dirty again. The ring is a symbol of our marriage, but if I lose the ring, I’m still married.
The gift from God is given to every child, adult, man, woman of every color and every nation when we put our trust in Him.
Galatians 4:6 states: “Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
The Holy Spirit is a fire burning within our hearts. This is God’s presence living in me. It (the Holy Spirit) can’t be seen, but the presence is real. At times, there is a burning sensation throughout my heart. Those times are when I feel God’s presence, yet I’m not sure what it means. It’s not the Holy Spirit telling me to make this decision or refrain from that one; it’s not that black and white. However, my assurance rests in knowing that God’s presence will be with me whatever I decide. God gives many gifts of the Spirit, but to have the actual Spirit in me? Hallelujah! The ring is a symbol of our marriage, but if I lose the ring, I’m still married. Similarly, the Holy Spirit is the evidence that God is alive and real.
